"12 Varied Drum Etudes for Beginning Drummers” addresses a need that I had found through years of teaching students of all ages and experiences. Although many drum etudes exist for more advanced drummers (notably Charles Wilcoxon, John Pratt, Joe Tompkins and more), there is a notable lack of etudes suitable for beginner drummers. There is an even bigger lack of materials written for a complete drum set with a clear, well-laid-out notation system. I also noticed that the exercises and etudes that did exist were largely quite dry and unmusical, and they often were written without specific stickings, dynamics, and other important musical notation. This collection of etudes is musical, memorable, and relatable for beginner drummers, and addresses specific topics that are important to develop including understanding of rhythm, stickings, dynamics, accents, standard drum set notation and more. I have been teaching these methods to my students and have refined them over time, and I can confirm that these etudes truly make a world of difference. I would call it a “game changer”!

These etudes develop the students’ understanding of:

-rhythm

-time signatures

-dynamics

-accents

-sticks

-musical phrasing

-reading

& more!
